Callista was trained in Levels I, II, and Master Teacher Level III over several years of dedicated apprenticeship with Usui Reiki Master Pam Adler in the 1990s in Marin County of the San Francisco Bay Area.  Usui Reiki is a Japanese natural energy healing method received via direct transmission of Reiki healing channel attunements, then was further developed into a healing system by Mikao Usui in the early 20th Century.  This natural healing lineage continues when students receive initiation from a Reiki Master Teacher via Reiki energy “attunements,” which uses a combination of meditation, symbols, and hand placements to channel universal life force energy. The goal is to promote physical, mental/emotional, and spiritual body balance by helping to heal and restore the receiver's own self-healing abilities, leading to a deep sense of relaxation, mental clarity, and well-being.

How it works

 

Universal Energy

​​​​The core principle is that everything is made of energy, and a trained practitioner acts as a conduit to channel "Universal Life Force” energy to the receiver.

 

Hand Placements

A practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above specific points on the body to be a conduit and guide the energy flow. The Reiki channels hands may remain in each position for several minutes. These may correspond with Chakras, Nadis, and/or Meridians which are core concepts in different Eastern spiritual and healing traditions

that describe the location of material plane intersections with the body's subtle, or energetic, anatomy.   While they function as part of a single, integrated system, they originate from distinct traditions: 

•  Chakras and Nadis come from Indian traditions like Yoga and Ayurveda.

•  Meridians are a central component of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). 

 

Intuitive Process

While there are established hand positions for a typical Reiki session, the energy is directed intuitively based on the receiver's needs. Some practitioners also use subtle-energy scanning techniques to identify areas needing attention. 

 

Distance Healing

Advanced Reiki practitioners become adept at channeling non-local energy activations from the subtle energetic planes of existence. “Distance" healing is possible because advanced practitioners can channel universal life force energy across time and space. This concept is based on the idea that everything is fundamentally connected through a unified energy field, which transcends the physical limitations of the material world. 

 

Foundational Principles of Distance Healing

•  Universal Life Force Energy

Reiki is based on the Japanese concept of "ki" (also known as "chi" or "prana"), a non-physical life force that flows through all living things. When this energy becomes blocked or stagnant, it can lead to physical or emotional imbalances. A Reiki practitioner acts as a channel to help restore a balanced energy flow.

•  The Hermetic Law of Similarity

This principle, invoked during distance Reiki, states that because all things are part of a greater whole, a practitioner can "link up" to a recipient's energy field from anywhere. Physical distance is considered an illusion from a higher, non-dual perspective.

•  The Distance Symbol

To facilitate distance healing, a Reiki practitioner at the second-degree level or higher uses energy technology via attunements in the form of a specific symbol to create a bridge of light, sending energy through time and space to the recipient. The energy is guided by the practitioner's intention for the highest good of the recipient.

•  Quantum Mechanics

Some practitioners and proponents of energy healing point to concepts from quantum physics to offer a potential scientific analogy for how this might work, citing the interconnectedness of subatomic particles. This view suggests that thought or intention can influence energy.  Our intention, our constant focus, amplifies and draws into layers of created beingness from the unified field all the time - the spiritual growth challenge is to become more conscious of what we are constantly co-creating with the Universe.  Life is a mirror, we are what we are calling in.  We experience what we are calling in. Consciously, or mostly unconsciously, just as the majority of an iceberg is underwater (unconscious) and only a small part is visible (conscious).   Reiki doesn’t necessarily need us to direct it - this ray of universal life force acts as an adaptogen and will remove the deep obstacles creating imbalance, pain, suffering from whatever level of origin - if a person needs more energy, Reiki will bring it, if a person needs less energy in a particular part of their being, then Reiki will help to clear it.  The whole of Reiki is to bring to consciousness all parts of ourselves, clear imbalances so that harmony remains.
